“I have lost all sense of time. How many hours or days have passed since I fell asleep? I cannot say. My head wound may be more severe than I initially thought, as the pain persists.
When I awoke, an unbearable hunger clawed at my stomach. My torch had long since extinguished, but I lacked the strength to rekindle it. Trembling hands rummaged through my pack for the rations, now damp and moldy. Their taste was vile, but starvation compelled me to eat. In the pitch-black cavern, I consumed every scrap, half-reclined on the cold, damp floor. The only sound was the faint drip of water falling into a subterranean pool nearby. Sleep overtook me once more.
When I awakened again, I resolved to explore my surroundings. Staying here meant certain death. Perhaps others have survived this calamity? Let us see if the gods have shown mercy to more than just me…”
